Dendy Kurniawan joined AirAsia as Chief Finance Officer of AirAsia X Indonesia in May 2014. He was promoted to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in December 2014 and took Indonesia’s first long-haul low cost airline to its first flight to Taipei in January 2015. In September 2016, Dendy was appointed AirAsia Group CEO for Indonesia, as AirAsia was gearing up for further expansion in Indonesia. His role is to oversee the growth and development of both AirAsia Indonesia and AirAsia X Indonesia. In addition to his responsibilities as Group CEO for Indonesia, Dendy also serves as CEO of AirAsia Indonesia. Under his leadership, the two Indonesian affilites of the world’s best low-cost airline have recorded positive growth. Dendy successfully drove the turnaround strategies that led AirAsia Indonesia to profitability by end 2016, and the resumption of AirAsia X Indonesia long-haul operations connecting Bali with Mumbai, India and Tokyo Narita, Japan in early 2017. Dendy is a Fulbright Scholar with a Master of Arts in International & Development Economics from Yale University, and a Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Prior to joining AirAsia, he worked for 18 years in finance and capital markets in the government and private companies.
